European VAT Check Service

This is a web based service that lets you verify VAT number id of customers and suppliers prior to billing.

Allows you to verify hundreds of VAT identification numbers issued by a European Member State. The verification is done against the national VAT database of the selected member state. The service then forwards the request to the national database. All such national databases are connected together on a secure Intranet connecting the Customs and Taxation administrations (VIES) of the member states of the EU. The reply is then returned to this services and to your inquiry interface. When companies need to verify VAT numbers of their customers and suppliers before billing, this could really be very handy. The service will also provide you with "VIES request ID" and an unique consultation number that may be demanded by the tax authorities to prove that you have actually verified the VAT number of the supplier or the customer.

These details can be printed out or archived in storage files for later use, when demanded. The interface is designed for making the query easy. You need to specify when a retry with the query be made. As this database is likely to be heavily used, this is an essential parameter. You also specify how many times you want to retry before giving up. You can set up an inquiry for multiple suppliers or customers and the system will tell you if the VAT ids you have are correct or wrong. The Request id also appears on the spreadsheet like display.VAT numbers can be acquired from external data sources too, if you do not have them and once again the form on the interface makes it easy to set up a query.
